At a Voters' Meeting held Tuesday, May 24, 2005 the voters of Pilgrim Lutheran
Church
unanimously approved the formation of and participation in THE UNITED LUTHERAN
MISSION ASSOCIATION (ULMA). The ULMA is a joint pursuit with Redeemer Lutheran
Church of St. Clair Shores, Michigan.
Redeemer Lutheran Church left The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod in
September of 2004.
Pilgrim left the Missouri Synod in October of 2004. The two
congregations have agreed to form
the ULMA for the purposes of planting mission congregations and offering
an organization for
other existing Lutheran congregations of like mind.
Key to the Association's goals are the avoidance of a money consuming
bureaucracy and pastors
leaving their pulpits for full time positions. The Association is
adamant that congregations
maintain their independence and that laity provide the leadership and
guidance for the ULMA
with pastors acting in advisory capacities.
Redeemer and Pilgrim have developed two constitutions. One for the
Association proper and
existing congregations that desire to become part of the Association.
The second constitution is
designed specifically for mission congregations. Click on the link below
if you would like copies
of the two constitutions.
The founding congregations of Redeemer and Pilgrim are planning their
first official meeting to be
held in Chicago on July 16, 2005.
